Issue 14: April 2006, Online Privacy

EditorialNewsEventsCountry Focus About Insafe

Editorial
Welcome to the April edition of the Insafe Newsletter

This month's issue focuses on the issue of privacy.  These days everyone from the youngest children to job applicants need to be aware of what information can be found about them online. Have you ever tried googling yourself?

In Norway, privacy has proved to be a common point of interest for a wide range of national partners who work with NoNo, the Norwegian node for raising internet safety awareness.  It was the focus of Safer Internet Day in February this year.

The state of affairs in Norway is as complex as everywhere else. Conducting research on usage patterns aids and guides every aspect of awareness raising. It’s about listening and learning from our target groups.  NoNo therefore follows the SAFT credo: Check the facts, and then act.

A large cross-European study formed the basis of the SAFT initiatives. Both parents and children were asked about usage habits, fears and competences. The survey results – shared with a wide range of national stakeholders – have proved invaluable in providing a common base for joint national awareness efforts.
