Who can enter?
Students aged up to 18. You will need to work with a teacher and a partner school from any of the 28 following Insafe countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States of America.

What is the task?
The task for participating students is to prepare awareness materials focusing on the chosen theme. During the project, you will reflect on e-privacy, netiquette or images, and look at how they work in public virtual spaces (social-networking sites). Students should be supervised and coordinated by at least one teacher per group. One school in the partnership, the “leader” school will register the team for the competition and be responsible for posting the project outcome in the blogathon. Upon registration, you will receive instructions for uploading your work to the blogathon.

Prizes
4 teams will receive prizes. There is one prize per theme and one prize for the most innovative entry. Prizes will be tailor-made to the needs of your school: hardware, software, broadband access...

Registration
Pairs of schools that wish to participate to the competition have to register until December 31 2006, by filling in the entry form available on the Insafe website.
Remember: ALL teams participating in the contest must be registered with Insafe by their “leader” school.

Deadline
Your team must register by 31th December. You can work on the project until the beginning of February 2006. You must post your project outcome on the Safer Internet Day (SID) 2007 blogathon between 1st and 6th February. The blogathon will go live on February 6th at 11.00 CET (Central European Time).

What is the SID blogathon?
It is an annual event that begins on Safer Internet Day. It will start on February 6th, 2007. Postings on the blog start on 1st February and carry on until February 6th, when the blogathon goes live. Languages
The awareness material can be in any of the languages of the countries represented in the Insafe network. You should choose a common language of communication for your project team and make your blog posting in this language or in English, French or German.
Contestants under 14 can work in their national language and communicate with the partner through a group delegate or a teacher.
Important: You must provide at least a short summary of your project (about 100 words) in English, French or German.

Tools
You can use ICT tools such as videoconferencing, email, chat, forums, voip (voice over internet protocol such as Skype), collaborative environments, web site creation, etc. European Union schools working together, including schools from Iceland, Norway and Bulgaria, are encouraged to register their project with eTwinning as it provides a very good platform for online collaboration.

What is eTwinning?
eTwinning supports collaborative projects between at least two schools from at least two different European countries. These schools form a partnership and use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to carry out a pedagogically relevant project. Find out more on the eTwinning Portal. If both schools from your team are from the EU or from Iceland, Norway or Bulgaria, we recommend that you register your partnership with eTwinning and use the TwinSpace to communicate and work with your partner school.

The TwinSpace is a unique platform for you to work with your partners in Europe. It works like your own individual project website where you can store all your documents (files, photos, links, etc.) so that you don’t have to worry about sending and organising large files between each other by email, as well as providing you a space where you can chat, email and work together on your project. The TwinSpace also has the option of being published so that you can share your project work with others over the internet in a safe online environment.

What is the “leader” school?
The leader school is the school that takes on the responsibility of registering for the competition and posting the awareness material or a description of it on the blogathon.

What is the “project outcome”?
The “project outcome” is the awareness material that your team has created. If it is a poster or video clip, then this is the project outcome and you can upload it directly to the blogathon with a short summary of your project (approx. 100 words) in English French or German. If you have created a play, workshop etc, then will upload a description of the project (approx. 500 words) to the blogathon in the language of your choice. The aim of your “project outcome” is to make people aware of how to use the internet & mobiles safely and ethically. You may want to address a general or more specific public (peers, parents, policy makers etc.).
Remember: there is a prize for the most innovative entry!

What about copyright?
When using material created by others, such as photos, music, images, text etc., contestants should ask for permission from the author, illustrator, composer, etc. and add a “credits” page with all the copyright notices. Be careful, you may have to contact the original author for permission. Warn youngsters that infringement of copyright means automatic disqualification and help them send off their request for copyright permission.
