Launched in June 2004, its key aims are to educate Australian pupils about safe Internet practice and provide resources to teachers.
CyberSafe Schools already offers resources which can be downloaded from the website. Although aimed at Australian teachers, the resources address general issues related to Internet safety education and could be a valuable tool for anyone involved in this field.
Wallcharts for primary and secondary level teachers detail the Internet safety skills required by students. They highlight the potential risks and offer strategies and classroom activities for teachers.
A supporting quick reference guide and a more in-depth 20 page booklet entitled "Teacher’s Guide to Internet Safety" are also available for download.
As CyberSafe Schools moves into its second phase, it will develop further resources for primary level teachers. These will be distributed on CD-ROMs to Australian primary schools and all the resources will be made available to a wider audience via their website.
The three year programme is organised by Netsafe, a not-for-profit community advisory body funded by the Australian government.
