MSN works with partners in the volunteer sector, child protection professionals, parent groups, governments, and both local and international law enforcement and continues to develop the tools and technologies to help create a safer and more enjoyable online experience, such as parental controls in MSN Premium and Hotmail services.
In Europe, partnerships MSN is actively involved in include, among others, InHope’s hotline operators, EuroISPA, The Government’s Task Force on Child Protection (UK), Anesvad (Spain) and Safer Internet for Children Group (Netherlands).
Recent MSN best practice initiatives in the area of child safety include Websafecrackerz, a child safety site in the UK designed by teens for teens to help them understand the importance of safe surfing on the Internet. MSN also works with the Anesvad Foundation in Spain to help combat child pornography on the Internet and with the KWINT group on Online Safety for kids in the Netherlands.
In October 2003, changes were made to MSN Chat services worldwide as part of an overall effort by MSN and Microsoft to provide customers, especially teens and children, with a safer, more secure and positive online experience. These measures included the closure of chat in many countries on the MSN website.
MSN is proud to be supporting Safer Internet Day and we will continue to work on many fronts to help preserve a safe, enjoyable and educational online experience for all of our users, especially children.
