Denmark sends out Internet safety message

The Danish Media Council for Children and Young People has launched a postcard campaign to promote Safer Internet to teachers, parents and students. This is the first of many activities planned for 2005.

The free "Go-cards" promote the Media Council’s new NetKompaz web page for Internet safety. The postcards have been distributed to 470 cafes and cinemas in 33 cities across Denmark and are aimed at parents and teachers as well as young people.

The Media Council’s ANDK (Awareness Node Denmark) project is officially launched on Safer Internet Day (8 February 2005) at a meeting attended by the Danish press and organisations that advise or educate children, teachers and parents on their use of new technologies.

Safer Internet Day will also see the launch of a storytelling contest. Children aged 9 to 16 are invited to submit their stories digitally to the EMU portal. This portal is the key online contact place for all primary, secondary and upper secondary schools in Denmark. Here, teachers and students can find information on school projects, trends within education, and school related events.

The Media Council’s aim for ANDK project and collaboration with EMU is to achieve greater awareness of Internet safety issues throughout Denmark. Other actions planned for 2005 include workshops, themed conferences and various press activities.
