An internet safety education program named CyberQuoll, which was developed by NetAlert and distributed to all schools in Australia with primary school aged children, is proving to be very successful.
CyberQuoll is the second stage of a three year Internet safety education program named CyberSafe Schools which NetAlert is developing for schools in Australia. Phase one of the program was directed solely at teacher education; phase two at primary school aged children and phase three (which NetAlert is currently working on) at secondary school aged children.
CyberQuoll teaches children about internet safety issues and solutions that are relevant to the age group. The topics are presented in a fun and entertaining way, with the ‘Cousins from Hell’ learning how to stay safe online.
Schools around Australia are implementing the CyberQuoll program in various ways and the feedback has been very positive. Some schools are selecting specific topics for individual year groups, whilst other schools are reinforcing all the topics at each year level. The teacher’s guide that accompanies CyberQuoll makes it easy for schools to integrate the program into the curriculum.
