Council of Europe convention on the protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse

Among several other European countries Finland signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse in October. Along with the convention there is a need to adjust national legislation accordingly.
The internationally harmonised and updated legislation will further the possibilities of opposing the multifaceted problem of child sexual abuse that the new information technologies have turned into an even more complicated and global issue. Signing the convention shows a clear political will and creates an obligation to take necessary steps and to adjust national legislation, for example with regards to grooming children for sexual abuse.
