According to the Mobile phone survey commissioned by Save the Children Finland, children and youth use their mobile phones actively and in various ways. The phones are used mainly
in a safe manner but their users also run certain risks.
9709 children under 18 years old participated in the Save the Children survey on mobile phones. Almost all of the respondents (98%) had a mobile phone. The phones are used for talking, texting, playing, photographing or videoing, playing music or for accessing the internet. Photos are actively taken by phones and also forwarded – unfortunately also without permission and to persons not known in real life. Bullying by phones is common, but children rarely tell their parents about it. Generally children do not really talk about mobile phone use with their parents – except in relation to expenditure.
