Friend Request – an exhibition about virtual friendship

The exhibition “Friend Request” at the well-known culture centre Kulturhuset in Stockholm   takes the virtual realities of social sites and applications such as Facebook, MSN and Twitter and places them in the physical world.

What does online friendship mean? Is there such a thing as a close online relationship? What is friendship to you? These are some of the questions posed at “Friend Request”. On the internet you can add someone as a friend by a simple mouse click, whereas a friendship in the physical world usually evolves much more slowly. The exhibition examines the changing conditions for friendship today: how the internet enables maintenance of friendships world-wide, but also how it changes the way we communicate in terms of, for example, emotions being expressed and enhanced with graphic symbols.

Participating artists are Maria Lervik, Caroline Schanning and Sofia
Sofroniadis.

“Friend Request” opens on March 21st and will be on display through May 3rd.
