SID09 a successful collaboration with Spanish industry

Safer Internet Day 2009 has provided good examples of how Industry can get involved and pro-actively cooperate to disseminate the main campaign on Cyber-bullying.

• On the 10th February a Presentation of the collaboration agreement with Microsoft took place at a press conference with the presence of Marta Múgica, the Director of Relationships with Society and Communication Campaigns of the European Comission in Spain, Guillermo Canovas President of Protégeles, Alfonso Delgado President of the Pediatric Spanish Association,  Julio del Valle de Íscar President of AEDE, Spanish Scouts Association and María Garaña, President of Microsoft Iberia.
As part of this agreement, PROTEGELES is involved in the initiative of “security volunteers”. This involves PROTEGELES running a training activity with Scouts in Spain and MSN employee volunteers.  MSN is spreading information about Protégeles’s helplines and campaigns as part of their own campaign called “Your family and the Internet”.

• MSN sent a newsletter with information about the event and the campaign to more than 12 million windows live users on Safer Internet Day. MSN sent specific information regarding windows live child protection over a 6 weeks period.

• Launch of the PROTEGELES infobus in HABBO HOTEL (Social Network): PROTEGELES announced their collaboration agreement with Habbo Hotel under which PROTEGELES offers weekly virtual conferences and moderates a chat session aimed at the Spanish speaking members of HABBO. This is done  through the PROTEGELES’s virtual bus, which has been specifically designed with the PROTEGELES logo and colours. HABBO gives PROTEGELES a page on their website which can be accessed will be directly from the Habbo.es main page.  PROTEGELES will be able to use this page to disseminate information about various campaigns as well as awareness raising materials.

Habbo, published the EU video clip on its homepage habbo.es, uploaded some articles and linked to the campaign. They also gave Spanish speaking users the opportunity to participate in in-games activities.

• On Safer Internet Day, Chello Multicanal dedicated their special “Commitment” to end cyber-bullying, something which worries parents more and more every day. As part of their commitment, Chello Multicanal broadcast useful advice on their channels, with the purpose of preventing bullying in cyber-space. The “Commitment” includes the advertisement of the campaign “stop online bullying” and was broadcast three times a day  during February.

• MySpace promoted Safer Internet Day, publishing banners during the week. One of these was clearly visible on their homepage and another linked directly to an advertisement to “stop online bullying” which offered a day of support from The Office.

• Tuenti, the social network, celebrated Safer Internet Day by promoting the “stop online bullying campaign”.

• Yoigo, supported the Protégeles initiative against cyber-bullying, by having a banner on their front page supporting the safe and responsible use of new technologies, especially amongst minors and young people. On the 9th and 10th of February, the thousands of daily visitors to Yoigo´s website could read: “The plugs are not the only problem in the house”. (Link to the spot).

• Optenet, a global IT security company of international recognition who are known especially for their web filtering systems, supported Safer Internet Day 2009. They offered a free subscription for their model of PC and operating system to all those who asked for it through their web page on this specific day.
