Greek node brings ‘invisible world’ to TV

E.KAT.O. organised a TV show entitled Atheatos Kosmos (Invisible World) together with national channel ALTER. The show, hosted by Kosta Xardavella, highlights children’s use of the internet, the associated dangers, and how to prevent them.
The safer internet campaign was clearly presented, and in particular the issue of online child pornography.  Greece has seen particular media interest in this issue since the Greek Police Computer Crime Unit announced an increase in the number of cases in recent months.

A TV awareness-raising advert was aired, thanks to the cooperation of the German node that had commissioned it.  Further support was given by Dr. Joachim Kind who made a short speech.

From the Greek node, Dr. Veronica Samara presented the web page and spoke on the ways parents and children can be informed.  Dr. Tanya Kyriakides was present in both debates, informing about the dangers and problems especially encountered by children.  She was also on hand to respond to questions from the studio audience.

Following the show, the Ministry of Education contacted both the TV channel and E.KAT.O., with the aim to cooperate and create a special DVD with information for children and parents on safe internet use.

The Greek node also presented the project and its aims in the Macedonia University Main Hall, after a joint request from the Ministry of Education and the Greek congress, together with Member of Parliament Elena Rapti. Mrs Rapti is one of the first MPs to include the logo of safer internet campaign on her website.
