New campaigns in Denmark address spam and Internet safety9 March 2005
In February 2005, the Danish Consumers’ ombudsman took part in a major international campaign against Internet fraud. The campaign for safer Internet in Denmark continues in March with the launch of "Internet Safety Now!" on 10 March. |
In February the Danish Consumer’s ombudsman organised activities highlighting Internet scams to help Danes recognise cases of fraud on the Internet. The effort was part of a larger campaign against fraud with consumer authorities from 34 countries all over the world.
A particular focus in the campaign was spam. Every month Danes report between 30 000 and 45 000 spam mails. Sending out spam is illegal in Denmark but most of the spam received in Denmark is sent from abroad.
The promotion of safer use of the Internet continues in March, when the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and Ministry of Education’s campaign "Netsikker nu!" (Internet Safety Now!) kicks off.
The campaign is launched on 10 March 2005 with activities all over Denmark. It will address a wide range of problems faced by Internet users.
Activities include special visits to a number of workplaces. Also, Microsoft employees will educate children in schools all over Denmark on IT-safety. The Media Council has created educational material for the presentations.
On 10 March, a giant inflatable computer will hold centre stage in Copenhagen’s town hall square. People can visit stalls inside where IT companies and organisations will be on hand to answer questions about Internet safety.
