The celebration of SID 09 in Denmark

This year the Danish node will focus on three target groups in the Safer Internet Day celebration: Children, Tweens/teens and adults (parents, teachers, media etc).

Media round table

On the 9th of February the Media council will host a round table for selected media based on the results of a new survey initiated by the node. The survey focuses on how children and young people (aged 9-16) handle each other’s privacy and identity online and on the mobile and will function as the basis of the round table. The survey is the children and young people’s voice and point of view in this year’s celebration. At the round table a panel of researchers and professionals will present different views on the results of the survey. The themes will e.g. be legislation vs. self regulatory behavior, industry responsibility and the new roles of the youth guardians.

Creative workshop for children

The workshop will take place at a popular science museum in Copenhagen and is targeted at children (aged 6-11) under the theme: Build your own internet. Supervised by a professional artist/scenographer the kids will be building an artwork-in-progress based on their own perception of the internet, virus, worms, popular sites for children, games etc. 10 classic computer screen cabinets will be emptied and use as starting point for the artwork. The idea is to visualize how children today perceive the internet and the concept of the internet. We expect the finished piece of art made by many children to be displayed in a central cultural location in Copenhagen afterwards. The workshop will also have an internet café with a national online quiz competition for the older children + representation of relevant stakeholders. There will be a similar offline event in second largest city in Denmark. This event will be coordinated in cooperation with the Danish helpline Cyberhus (our official SID partner in 2009).

SNS online campaign for tweens/teens

In cooperation with the largest Danish social networking sites for children and young people, Awareness Node Denmark is launching a viral campaign targeted towards young people. The aim is to create awareness in the target group (uploading, tagging etc.) through debate. The campaign consists of a campaign site with a custom made funny film featuring a Danish celeb + debate + quiz, test and other relevant viral content.

Other SID 09 activities

In addition to the three main activities mentioned above, the Danish node will take part in and initiate several other events. The node is also cooperating with different stakeholders and media on various activities on the day – online as well as offline, i.e. themes in relevant periodical and specialist magazines, a joint competition with The National Council for Children and an extensive awareness campaign in cooperation with the Danish Board of Technology called “you decide”. The libraries all over the country will receive a virtual tool box for celebrating SID on the local representations, and the campaign spot from the EC will be disseminated to relevant television and digital media as part of the general PR/media approach and the viewers will be led to a Danish version of the landing page/the Danish campaign-site for SID 2009: www.sikkerinternetdag.dk.
