Safenet II
Project start - end date (duration)
01/11/2006 - 29/02/2008
The Spanish node, called SAFENET II, is coordinated by Protégeles.
PROTEGELES is a not for profit association created as a formal legal entity in 2002, although the hotline against child pornography on the internet (that gives the Association its name) has been running since October 2001. In October 2004 PROTEGELES signed as the coordinator a contract with the EC and joined the Insafe network as the Spanish awareness Node.
The work of PROTEGELES relating to the internet has the following objectives:
Develop studies and awareness campaigns aiming at improving the safety of children on the Internet as well as on child safety in the use of mobile telephones and leisure activities such as videogames, TV and other ICTs.
Provide the Spanish National Police and the Guardia Civil with information in order to facilitate the elimination of illegal content on the internet as well as assisting these bodies in identifying those responsible for these pages.
The main objective of the Safenet II Project is to improve the security of minors in the use of the Information and Communication Tecnologies (internet).
Within this framework PROTEGELES is involved developing spaces for minors, didactic materials, training campaigns, studies and other actions on the safe and responsible use of the internet, mobile phones and digital leisure activities such as television and videogames.
On 25th of September 2006 the Safenet Project was presented to the Media and the Society in the “Casa de Correos” in Madrid. With the presence of the Madrid Regional Government President Ms. Esperanza Aguirre.
